Chimneys in Black Diamond
Black Diamond has two histories. The first starts in the 1880s, when it was a rural coal mining area developed by the Black Diamond Coal Mining Company of California. The company owned and operated the mine. The city was officially incorporated in 1959, and in 2020 it counted 4,697 people in 1,841 housing units.
The second history is recent. In 2008 land was bought for the first master planned development, and applications were filed with the city in 2010. After lawsuits that ran until a 2018 settlement, the first two master planned developments came to cover 6,050 single and multi-family residences. By March 2022 the Ten Trails community alone had 845 occupied households.
In 2023 Black Diamond grew by 40.6 percent, the fastest rate of any small city in King County. For a chimney company the result is an unusual split. Older houses from the mining years have decades of weather in their masonry, while thousands of new homes have chimneys and fireplaces that are only a few seasons old. The newest ones deserve a first inspection for a baseline, and the oldest deserve a careful look at their crowns, mortar and liners.

What Black Diamond homes ask us about most
- Gas Fireplace ServiceIf your new home has a gas fireplace, its vent, burner and glass still need a check each year.
- Level 2 Chimney Inspection (Camera)When a house sells or changes hands, a camera scan of the flue is the best record of what is inside.
- Chimney Cap InstallationBuilders' caps on new chimneys are not always the best fit, and a well-made one protects the flue for decades.
Questions from Black Diamond homeowners
I just bought a new house in Black Diamond. Does the chimney need an inspection?
A first inspection gives you a baseline. It shows the condition of the flue, the cap and the flashing, and it catches builder mistakes while they are easy to fix.
Is a new fireplace maintenance free?
No. A gas fireplace needs its vent and burner checked yearly, and a wood fireplace needs the flue inspected every year as well, as NFPA 211 recommends.
Do you serve the older part of Black Diamond too?
